About us
A small house for big thinking
Headcase is a consulting and creative practice in Dublin, working with businesses since 2007. We partner with them at step-change moments, and we join up culture, business and brand. Everything we do is led by intelligence. The deeper we go with a partner, the better the work gets. Plenty of firms will plan your strategy. We stick around to do the work.
The team
The people who make it happen
We are a senior team of strategists, creatives and producers. We work directly with boards on what should happen next, and the thinking and the making stay in one team.
Meet the team →Our story
From a band to a business
Headcase started with a band. Andrew Casey and Olaf O’Moore met at primary school, and at sixteen they were running their band like a business. When the band stopped, Andrew went to UCD to study business and Olaf went to Trinity to study engineering.
Then they came back together, this time to build a real business. In 2007 they launched Ecocabs, cycle taxis in the middle of Dublin. Pedal power in a city built for cars. Everyone thought they were mad. But they had a twist nobody else had. Brands sponsored the bikes, so every ride was free, and every driver was out on the street talking up the brand. They took Ecocabs to festivals, gigs and street corners, wherever culture was happening. They were making brand experiences before anyone had a name for them.
We kept starting things. Funked Up Fixies, Olaf’s build-your-own bike brand. Amilli, a sustainable fashion brand led by Karla, our Head of Finance. Some bets paid off and some didn’t. We learned from both.
In 2014 Ecocabs became Headcase, because we had worked out what we were really good at: work that shifts culture. Then clients started asking for more than a great activation. They needed strategy that changes how a business works, and advice that moves the numbers. We had always done that. Now we lead with it.
What we value
You can’t write culture on a wall
Our values are the traits that carried this company through recessions, a pandemic and a lot of change. They are how we behave every day, not a poster in the kitchen.
Doing well.
The entrepreneurial drive. Agility. Curiosity. A culture of growth.
It is the drive that ran a school band like a business and put cycle taxis on Dublin’s streets. The whole team gets coached, because we would rather keep growing than stand still.
Doing good.
Purpose. A bigger reason. Values have to cost you something.
Ours did. In 2023 we stopped working with brands that knowingly harm people or the planet, and walked away from the revenue. We have worked with brands we wouldn’t work with today, and we would rather say so than pretend otherwise.
Have fun doing it.
Life is too short. If there is a high-return route and a more fun route, we go that way.
It is why our Head of Finance launched a fashion brand and helps write creative briefs, our CEO is also a coach, and one of our founders keeps bees. Nobody here has to hide a talent to fit a job title.
